Made from leather (typically goat skin) over a wood frame, stitched with thick thread, and hand painted on both sides in folk art motif. These drums are held close over the heart as they’re played using the fingertips - often as an accompaniment to storytelling. SIZE: Just under 10” square: specifically, it measures about 9 3/4” W by 9 1/4” H by 1 1/4” thick. CONDITION: There’s no mistaking this drum for new or machine made: it has all the quirky charm and patina of a vintage, handmade item. One side has more wear and fading than the other. Like all handmade items, it’s the small imperfections (unevenness, marks or wear) that give the drum its character and authenticity.
