hello, what size batteries does it take ?

Hi, It takes 2 D batteries. I tried some, but didn't have a new correct bulb & don't know if the one in it works. The spring at the end, that would make a contact with the batteries, has rust, so may need to be cleaned, for a current to flow. I left the old batteries because they are old, and rather cool looking. Thank for asking!
