Vintage Knobler Mid-Century "Doctor" Shaving Mug/Coffee Cup

Nice vintage, mid-century shaving mug with the word "Doctor" and caduceus staff and snake symbol with wings in front of a doctor's bag, from Alfred Knobler & Co., imported from Japan. The caduceus symbol's root name in Greek means "herald's wand" which was often associated with alchemy. Shaving mugs like this were often left on the shelf in the local barbershop so the barber could use it for his repeat customer. Mug has slight wear to gold trim, and a few tiny spots that seem to be in the porcelain itself. There's also slight wear to bottom from sitting. Great gift for a doctor/medical school graduate, can be used for coffee, pencil holder, make-up brush holder, etc. Please see all photos. 0050WBase
