Vintage from the 1990s Materials: wood Round vintage Japanese doll by SEKIGUCHI Toa (関口 東亜, 1942 - unknown ) Born in Maebashi in 1942, Sekiguchi-san began creating kokeshi in the mid-1960s. His father was Sekiguchi Sansaku, the only artist to have been certified as a Master of Modern Kokeshi, by the Japanese Government. He is himself a renowned creator of modern (sosaku) kokeshi, and has won numerous prizes for his work, including the Prime Minister’s Award, which he received in 2001.
