Vintage 1960s
Lydia’s of Montreal Size L in a Velvet cotton
Maxi Coat with 3/4 Sleeves (at the time women liked to wear long leather gloves with the 3/4 sleeves.)Made for Simpson’s Dept Store of Montreal.
Please see photos for approximate measurements.
Excellent condition except for a tiny hole in the armpit area. It looks like it was caused due to fraying, perhaps from being too snug. Please see last 2 photos. Should be a very simple mend.
Please see photos for information on the designer of this coat, Lydia Sperlich.
This is a wonderful 1960s vintage black velvet coat designed by Lydia Sperlich for Simpson’s Department Store.
The coat has a high collar, two front pockets and has 3/4 length sleeves. This sleeve length was popular during the 1950s into the 1960s when women would wear long leather gloves and would want to show them off. The interior of the coat is lined in a black satin fabric.
Label: Lydia’s Montreal and Simpson’s (the Simpson’s label is held on by one small thread only.)
Sizing: There is no size label, and although this coat should fit a large size, please note the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: ~ 18-19” across estimate of where shoulder seams would be due to raglan sleeves.
Sleeves: raglan from neck seam - 21”
Bust: 42” around
Waist: 41”
Hips: 44” around
Length: 39” measured flat from mid-shoulder
Condition: This coat is in excellent shape and appears to have seen little use and was well cared for and stored over the years.
