Vintage Mediation Chant Wood Bell Mokugyo Wooden Fish Temple Meditation Drum

Vintage Mokugyo or wooden fish gong, used for prayer and meditation in Japanese temple. It measures about 10” across x 12” high. The set includes a cushion and a striker too. It is hand carved with two symbolized dragon fish, their mouths meeting at the handle and joined by a spiritual pearl. Fish scales have been nicely carved on the upper and lower sides of the gong. It rests on a bright gold cushion with accents of gold thread. The cushion measures 15” x 15". This was purchased from a reputable antique dealer that specializes in Japanese antiques. The style and carving of the wood gong are of the Meiji era around the late 1800's. Although the actual gong is over 100 years old the striker and the cushion are not original and are replacements. There are signs of wear on the drum from real temple chanting and use. Also there is a Japanese character carving on its side. Drumstick has wear from use
