Extraordinary & rare 1960s mod accent belt using 1940s Bakelite - believed to be a unique Charles Elkaim accessory! Charles Elkaim had a cult following and operated his own boutique (Charles’s Place) on Mulberry St. in New York City until he was forced to close in 2005 due to rising rents. His jewelry & accessory designs were featured heavily on Harper’s Bazaar fashion models in the 50s & 60s and were often photographed by the famous photog Richard Avedon. 14 highly sought-after Bakelite discs with yellow custard gumdrops (randomly sized dots) set in translucent root beer using a double process method. Each disc is approx. 1.5” diameter. Chain links are lightweight costume quality. Fastens with a simple hook. Sourced from a high-end estate.
