Vintage Okamoto Usaburo Creative Kokeshi Doll

Usaburo Kokeshi is located in the nature-rich village of Shinto in Gunma Prefecture.

 All the woods used for Kokeshi dolls are collected from the mountains of Gunma. The use of mature trees encourages the regeneration of the forest and plays a part in the cycle of maintaining the green village.

 Kokeshi dolls are the rebirth of the forest. They are a gift from nature. Stunning vintage Japanese doll with flowers by OKAMOTO Usaburo (岡本 卯三郎, 1917 - 2009) Usaburo Kokeshi is a modern kokeshi studio based in Gunma prefecture. It was founded by the renowned master craftsman Usaburo Okamoto, whose masterpiece Kantsubaki was owned by the Japanese emperor. His innovative techniques enabled him to build Usaburo into Japan’s largest and most famous producer of contemporary kokeshi dolls.
