Gee's Bend, Alabama, is home to a historic rural community of African American quiltmaking women known for their bold, graphic, colorful designs. It is more than 100 years old. This scarf is based on a quilt made by Nettie Young, 1916-2010, in 1971, called the H Variation Quilt: Milky Way.
