It is 9" deep with a 3" deep front pocket which is lined with black muslin and covers about the bottom 1/3 of the bag. There is a zipper on the back that opens into the main section of the bag, for quick access when drawstrings are drawn tight as the backpack/shoulder straps also tighten the drawstring.
