This Poly weave riding hat was made exclusively for Bergdorf Goodman - On The Plaza - New York. It was originally used in the 1940s while horseback riding in California, near Hollywood. There is an adjustable chin strap to keep it in place and great crown shapeing and a ribbon around the base of the crown. It’s in excellent condition, well made and a very stylish hat.

melindapresc379 Hello, Is this hat made out of straw or felted wool? Does it fit snug without the chin strap ? Is it a more looser fit that requires one to wear the strap? Is it a comfortable fit? Also can you send pictures of someone wearing it? Thanks so much !

gladsgatsby @melindapresc379 This hat is made from a “poly weave” according to an appraiser/identifier I asked. It’s difficult to be sure exactly what’s in there. I can tell you it is strong, light weight and feels fabulous to the touch. She was flabbergasted this kind of weave was existent in the 40’s.

gladsgatsby @melindapresc379 My daughter tried it on said it felt snug fit just like it should but I think that largely depends on head size. It does NOT need the strap but I would not remove it, just tuck them up in the crown effortlessly. Pictures to follow soon.

gladsgatsby @melindapresc379 What would you mean by irregular brim? I had a heckuva time trying to figure out how to post some more pictures to send you on this reply and there doesn’t seem to be a way to do it so I added four more to the post because that’s all it would allow. Model left, but I’ll do the best I can about getting a video.if you’re not in a big hurry, I can ask for a little pad to post more pictures for you on the reply, but it would probably be another day

gladsgatsby I just wanna say that the brim of this hat reminds me of a bit of a Humphrey Bogart style. Although it’s a riding hat. The brim that comes to mine would be that type. I actually mentioned it in my comment to you, but it exceeded the words, so I canceled it.
