Vintage Rochester NY Shoe Tree Co. "#4 Gene" Shoe Tree/Stretcher

Founded in 1922 by Edmund Bass (1889-1978), the Rochester NY Shoe Tree Co. began making masts for shoemakers to assist them in the manufacturing and repair of shoes. In 1933, he expanded the company making shoe trees strictly from select aromatic red cedar; nature's perfect wood for absorbing moisture and odors. These are from the early years as each is imprinted with "Pat. Pend". These still work as intended with a beautifully aged patina. There is wear and minor surface scratches however, there is no rust on the metal. Springs and screws are original and free from rust as well.
