Vintage Russian Braided Bast Shoes (Lapti) Authentic Handmade

These Vintage Bast Shoes were made primarily from Bast, fiber taken from the bark of Linden or Birch trees. Traditional Footwear of the forest regions of Northeastern Europe. Bast shoes have been worn since prehistoric times. Today you'll find these shoes in souvenir shops in Northern Europe and Russia, sometimes they are worn by ethnographic dance or music troupes as part of their costume.
