These vintage silver cuff links with an applied abstract fish design are by mid-century modernist Enrique Ledesma of Taxco, Mexico. They are signed on back along with the silver mark. Ledesma is an artist well known for his patinated background representing the deep sea and unoxidized fish applied in the foreground. Enrique Ledesma was a trained artist who attended the San Carlos Academy of Art before working for William Spratling, Los Castillo, Hector Aguilar and eventually opening his own shop in 1950. My mother-in-law was a travel agent, and I believe these were purchased during her travels. These are early pieces likely dating to sometime in the 1950s. They are in very good condition. My husband recalls the cuff links were likely worn by his mother when French cuffs were popular on women's blouses. I am very fortunate to have a matching set which includes a brooch and earrings (listed separately). A score for any collector of Ledesma.
