Vintage The Little Wooden Doll Book with Shackman Wooden Doll Set Flowered Dress

While the original box is missing, the doll and book from this set are in excellent used condition and could be packaged for such a special storybook gift for a young girl today. The red cloth covered book is entitled, "The Little Wooden Doll" and was authored by Margery Williams Bianco in 1925. The illustrations in the book were by her daughter Pamela Bianco. The book was reprinted in 1965 (31st printing) and included in a gift set with a little wooden doll made by the Shackman Company, NY. The tag on the back of the doll indicates it was made in Japan. The jointed wooden doll has a hand painted face and golden yellow yarn pigtails. She wears a floral dress in blues and grays with white lace and black ribbon trim. She has black felt shoes and cotton undergarments. Made under specifications that parallel the doll in the book. She does not stand on her own but can be posed in a seated position. The 65 page book tells a sweet story of recovery and has whimsical illustrations by Pamela Bianco. The set was boxed with the tag line, A Perfect Combination Gift for a Perfect Little Girl. Condition: Gently used with minimal signs of wear. Offers are always welcomed. Rocking chair is included. Bertha Shackman, an early American female business pioneer, founded B. Shackman & Co. in 1898. Initially on Broadway, moved its headquarters to Madison Avenue and 31st and Fifth Avenue. Shackman attributed the success of her company to innovation, quality, and service.
