Vintage The May Co Black Patent Leather Handbag – Art Deco Style

This bag, in this condition is a rare, cool vintage find with art deco framing. Black patent leather exterior with gold hardware and a light brown suede interior. This bag comes with the original pocket mirror! Interior label says “Made in England expressly for The May Co. California." This bag was lightly used back in the day. There are a couple small exterior scuffs (please see photos) that are barely noticeable. The interior is in perfect condition bar one small pen mark, again noted in the photos. The bottom is in perfect condition with the feet still intact and no scuffing. There isn’t a leather tag in the bag, but: the label "Made in England expressly for The May Co. California" suggests that the item was specifically manufactured for the May Company, a prominent department store in California. During its peak, The May Company was known for its quality merchandise, including a range of fashion items. Regarding the material of the bags with this label, it is highly likely that they were made of leather, especially considering the era and the store's reputation for quality. Leather was a common material for high-quality handbags made in England, which were then exported to prestigious retailers like The May Company.
