Made by Wakmann/ Breitling watchmakers in the mid-1960's, it has a 17 jewel Valjoux 730 Swiss movement, the same movement as used by some of the most well-known and expensive watches (Breitling, Rolex, etc.) of it's era. claudiuloko *Charles Gigandet not Breitling. They had a higher end line in collaboration with Breitling and a more accessible line made with Gigandet.

theowlknows @claudiuloko My understanding of the history of these is that they were all partially assembled by the BREITLING factory in Switzerland, then finished in New York under the Wakmann name because of import tariffs on complete watches. Wakmann DISTRIBUTED the Breitling under the name Wakmann for that reason. I believe Gigandet was primarily a distributor, former partner of Wakmann in Europe, and also made cases, as I recall. The 730 movement in my watch is the higher quality improved model.

theowlknows @claudiuloko Watch distributors, such as Gigandet, are entitled to put their trade name on the dial. Wakmann actually did watchmaking and final assembly on their watches, and also put their name on the dial. That doesn't change the fact of what is inside the watch.

julian169 Would you be interested in trading for a brand new Tudor Black bay 41mm?

theowlknows @julian169 Thank you for the offer, but I'm a collector who is liquidating my collection over time, so another watch doesn't help with my end goal.

theowlknows @travishock Hi, these are very underrated watches. If you haven't already, do a search for 'Wakmann Watch Co.' or similar to learn the history of them. Very interesting, and will make you appreciate yours even more.
