Wathne was a New York-based luxury outdoor and equestrian-related apparel and accessory firm. They sold to Bergdorf Goodman and I. Magnin and had a namesake boutique on West 57th Street that boasted Venetian plaster walls, a fireplace with a hand-carved limestone mantel and chandeliers made of antlers.
The brand owned by three Icelandic sisters, Soffia, Berge, and Thorunn Wathne. The brand's logo featured a fish keeping company with a crown, representing the sisters' passion for la vie sport (their passion was fly fishing) and their royal ancestry.
The Wathnes' mother was the sister of Iceland's former prime minister, Johann Hafstein, and on their father's side they are descendants of King Harold Fairhair of Norway.
The sisters opened their first US store in New York City in 1993, and their second in West Hollywood in 1996.
Wathne was a favorite among the fashion elite and a well loved brand from Manhattan to Paris, Italy and Moscow.
