The Wakefield pattern was introduced roughly 200 years ago, referencing Wakefield the birthplace of George Washington. It has been reintroduced 2 times since its original production, with the 2nd time produced with a Ruby Flash (paint) in the 50s through early 80s. The ruby Flash was very popular and is difficult to find excellent pieces since the piece must be hand washed carefully to not damage the ruby flashing.
The Wakefield pattern is also referenced as the Waterford Ruby Bowl Pattern. I don't know if these are different patterns, but my guess is Westmoreland named the version with the Red Flashing with this pattern name for product/market differentiation.
