Vintage Wine Coaster-Rare Ancanthus EPM with Glass Insert

Pre-owned Vintage Condition- signs of use consistent with age, Small flea bites on glass insert, some tarnish or staining present Silver Electro Plate Metal Shell & Ancanthus Motif Walnut Wood interior base Satin Glass insert - Rare most are missing this Felt lined bottom Hallmark: Castle stamp, EPM This fabulous Corbell & Company wine coaster is created in a gorgeous electroplated silver plate Metal with a marvelous shell and acanthus pattern. There is a walnut disk and a green felt bottom. Wine coasters were originally named sliders since they were used after the ladies left the table and gentlemen imbibed in after dinner drinks of sherry and port. The coasters were used to "slide" the bottle to the next gentleman. Hallmarks indicate this lovely coaster was created by Corbell & Company, which began manufacturing silver tableware in 1946 and subsequently moved to the US in 1951.
