Vintage Victorian Woolen Needlepoint Norwegian Style Flowers Embossed Brass Klokkestreng Bell Pull Cord Wall Hanger Exquisite Woolen hand stitched needlepoint Klokkestreng (bell pull cord) in a traditional Norwegian style pattern w antiqued brass finish embossed metal hardware on the top & bottom for wall hanging. Backed lined in a dark brown satin like fabric. Colors: Brown, Tan, Beige, Green, Blue, Orange, Red & Yellow. HISTORY Klokkestreng (Bell Pull Cord) is a handle, cord, or textile that rings a bell when pulled. Originally, the Klokkestreng (Bell Pulls) were common in Britain & America from the late 1700s to the early twentieth century. They were used as a pull to ring the steeple bells & also in larger manor homes to ring a bell to summon the servants. They often were seen as a sign of wealth & prominence, frequently made w rich fabrics & intricate needlework. As the call systems in homes were updated, the now obsolete bell pulls have become decorative objects. More recently, Bell Pulls have gained popularity as an item of beauty to have in your household.
