Stunning quilt from the 1890’s reflecting a wonderful history of fabrics and colors from the time. Several block’s highlighted with a beautiful cheddar colored patch. Quilting is simple with small even stitches. Signed by “Vera” and noted to be Grandma Longs quilt. NO wear and tear. Never washed. Most likely a quilt for a trousseau and only put out for special occasions. Fits a full bed or a topper for a queen. A few dark brown spots on the back and two small spots on the front that blend in. See pictures. Back is a solid white cotton.

Such an interesting backstory. I wish I knew more about the people. Thanks for sharing!

How sure are you that these are from that circa?

My mother-in-law collected early American quilts. At the time (1990’s) she had an appraiser specializing in quilts come in to appraise her all of her quilts. Since her passing (15 years ago) the quilts have been in storage and the family has just started to find new homes. I haven’t been able to find the appraiser’s report but the tag for its description from her is still attached to the quilt.
