Vintage gold-tone square stud earrings with purple round cobochon stone

Beautiful statement stud earrings for pierced ears. Featuring shiny gold-tone metal square that frames a round purple stone. Another seller described the stone as a flawed amethyst, but I can't confirm. The color is dark purple and both stones have some cloudiness as pictured in a close-up. The earrings are about 1" in width/height. Good vintage condition, nothing visibly wrong, no chips on the stones. No maker mark but I've seen these attributed to Avon.
