This is a lovely, colorful, raku pottery, figurine of a large baboon and her baby on her back. The art of raku originated in Japan in the 16th century. Now raku, pottery or raku where has become a general term for a type of ceramic technique that is globally known and practiced. The art lends itself well to these handmade African inspired creations of various animals and figurines. Each piece is removed from a kiln at 950°C and placed in sawdust. Slight imperfections may occur as part of the glazing process. Each piece is unique and may show slight variations in color or design from the next. This piece in my collection is signed with the artist initials. It measures 8 inches long to the tip of its tail and 4 inches high. it is done in a multi colored glaze finish, with a gold head and an orange baby. The figure that you will receive is the same figure in these pictures. It’s a vintage piece in great condition never been broken and doesn’t have any chips. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions that you have about this piece and always thank you for stopping by and looking at my closet.
