Vintage or Possibly Antique - National China Co. of East Liverpool, OH - Pheasant Platter.
Absolutely exquisite Pheasant Platter made by the National China Co. of East Liverpool, OH.
Circa very early 20th century.
The National China Company began in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1899. The late 1920's and early 1930's saw a rapid decline in the American pottery industry. The Depression, foreign competition, and the development of new products such as pyrex and plastic all contributed to its downfall. On November 15, 1932, the company ceased operations.
The platter center features a colorful lone pheasant sitting on a branch surrounded by red, yellow, pink and blue flowers. Fluttering to the side of the pheasant is a small yellow butterfly. Around the edge are 6 pheasants in portrait among small blue and white florals surrounding the platter edge. The outside edge is banded in gold.
I have not been able to find this particular or similar platter on the internet.
The back is marked National China Company 299.
Measures approx. 15" L x 11" W x 1 1/4" H.
Overall condition of this platter is very good given its age. There is some crazing on the front of the platter. The back has a little bit of crazing. There are a few minor knife marks on the face of the platter as a result of loving use over the years. The gold banding does show some minor wear in spots. On the back are three manufacturing flaws appearing as bumps. Please see pictures.
To be enjoyed by any bird enthusiast!
