Vintage Volupte Ruby Crystal & Gold Brass Swinglok Portmanteau

ONE-OF-A-KIND! UNIQUELY NIB VINTAGE!! With a Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan, Volupte was one of the most glamorous makeup brands of the 20th century, specializing in whimsical compacts, which were a favorite of Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers, Hedy Lamarr, & Vivien Leigh. Volupte was purchased by Yves Saint Laurent / YSL in the 60’s. Now a revered vintage brand, Volupte pieces are a capsule collection of old Hollywood glamour. Volupté earned much of their acclaim for their compact-turned-purse as well as their trademarked fastener, the “Swinglok”, which used a spring-loaded catch to ensure that their most coveted pieces stayed shut. This Volupté Swinglock Portmanteau art-deco minaudière is artfully crafted from gold-tone brass & interwoven ruby crystals. On the face, 3 stylized 4-leaf clovers emerge diagonally from a gold grosgrain field to bring good fortune to its lucky owner. Each clover is given its 3D shape by 12 ruby crystals nestled in a lattice of 6 gold-tone brass strands. Comes w/ a black silk faille carrying case, designed to display the case’s front while adding a strap & an exterior pocket. The interior features a mirror divider, separating a compartment that can be used for money, etc.; a compact with metal locking lid & original Volupte puff; a compartment with removable satin pouch; & a removable lipstick case.
