Vintage 1970’s Bronze Sculpture Art Pan Mushroom Fantasy Signed Artist EVANS Hand Made So very charming, whimsical piece. Pan the God of Nature, the Wild, Shepherds, Flocks, and Goats seems to be playing his imaginary flute to the others a top his mushroom landing. Pan: An ancient Greek religion and mythology, Pan is the god of the wild, satyrs, woodlands, shepherds and flocks, nature of mountain wilds, beastliness, rustic music and impromptus, and companion of the nymphs. He has the hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat, in the same manner as a faun or satyr. With his homeland in rustic Arcadia, he is also recognized as the god of fields, groves, wooded glens and often affiliated with sex; because of this, Pan is connected to fertility and the season of spring. The word panic ultimately derives from the god's name. Three happy woodland creatures or fauns appear to enjoy the music Pan is playing. Two with long ears and tails. One with no tail and a Narwhal horn. The Pan seems to be orchestrating the playful moments in their fantasy. The children are playing amongst the mushroom fantasy land. Presented with a total of 12 mushrooms of various sizes. This sculpture is 11 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. The wooden base is 5" x 4" x 1". This one of a kind bronze was purchased from the Coach House Gallery that was on Van Dyke Place in Indian Village, Detroit, Michigan in the early 1970’s. Nona Herzog owned the gallery.
