Jeanne Valentine French Original Made In Mexico:
Mid Century artist Jeanne Valentine who was known for her fabulous paper mache' works of art. Jeanne made several different cats but all were made in a modernistic look for the time. Handmade in her studio who has/had a wonderful studio in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Beautiful vibrant colors, red, black, golds.
We purchased this amazing "Cat of Hearts" sculpture in Tlaquepaque, Mexico in 1973.
This exquisite piece of paper mache sculpture is just amazing.
On the base is the original label in gold foil and black lettering in script: Jeanne Valentine. S. A. Made in Mexico. In handwriting with blue ink: U. 283.
The sculpture is constructed in two pieces. The head is 27 1/4" tall. The base is 21". She would be shipped in this manner.
She has gorgeous green eyes and eyelashes with a red heart shaped mouth. The large bow at her neckline is just charming. The piece is adorned in approx. 44 precious hearts. Her toenails are painted in gold. The curved tail is paper mache on wire. There is so much tremendous detail to this one of a kind piece.
Much loved and cherished by our family for years and years.
She is glorious. A wonderful example of Mexican handmade folk art and quite the statement piece.
A perfect gift for the whimsical cat lover in your life.
