Vtg Carved Intaglio Carnelian Sterling Silver Turkmen Signet Ring

Offered here is a superb antique Turkmen carnelian intaglio ring crafted from sterling silver. The carving is in very condition and remains crisp and clean. Turkmen jewelry uses symbolism extensively. The ram is considered a sacred animal but trees, snakes, and other natural motifs are frequently used. This ring has a rams head on each shoulder. Another animal has open jaws at the base of the head. Geometric symbols, such as circles, are also incorporated in the design. The Turkmen culture originated in Western and Central Asia and used jewelry for religious ceremonies, marking life stages, and displaying social status. Most of the jewelry we see today was made in the 19th century, but some is much older. The stone is 16mm wide. The ring weighs 18grams. It is not marked but has been tested and is guaranteed to be 925 sterling silver. This ring is in good antique condition with wear and patina that proves its age.
