Vtg France Santon de Provence Terracotta Doll Knitting Sitting Incredible Face!

Dimensions: 11" tall (in the seated position) x 7" wide, or 12" tall in the standing position This vintage Santon de Provence doll from France is a handcrafted, hand-painted treasure made of terracotta, wood, wire, and fabric. Though her arms, legs and hips are posable, she’s meant to sit as she knits something wonderful. She wears a slip, a heavy quilted floral skirt with a striped apron, a pink blouse, and a patterned scarf tied around her head. Her legs are wooden, with painted stockings and shoes, and her face and arms are crafted from terracotta. She even has tiny wire glasses. Most striking is her beautifully expressive face that showcases the artisan’s skill. Her face alone is an absolute work of art! Santons are traditional figures from the Provence region of southeastern France, making this piece a rare and unique find that would be a wonderful gift for any collector. Condition: Excellent vintage condition, except that there is a spot of slight discoloration on what she's knitting, and I believe she's supposed to have a rocking chair. Cross-listed.
