Rare and wonderful find!
European artist and sculptor Isabelle de Borchgrave is best known for her colorful paintings, intricately painted paper sculptures, paper garments and wearable art but she also created a series of home accent pieces for the now closed department store Marshall Fields. This vintage vase is one of those lovely pieces!
Crafted of papier-mache and hand-painted with pink roses and green leaves against a white background, this lovely medium-sized vase includes a glass cylinder insert so that water and flowers can be added. This type of cylinder insert is perfect for taller stems like roses, lilies and orchids. What a beautiful example of Isabelle de Borchgrave's work, and it's functional too!
This papier-mache pottery vase is marked with Isabelle's signature on the bottom. There is also a remnant of a tag but most of it is missing. It is in excellent vintage condition, though it does show very slight discoloration here and there as to be expected, given its age.
This vase would look stunning in most decors, including maximalist, boho, eclectic, contemporary, rustic, French country, shabby chic, modern farmhouse, and nature, to name but a few.
Crosslisted.
