I'm old enough to remember eagerly sitting down on Sunday nights to watch The Wonderful Worlds of Disney & suspect you did, too. Remember the nature themed episodes, wherein, you learned all about different animals & the earth?
This book is those episodes' source material. Close up, awe inspiring nature taken by photographers Disney had commissioned & sent around the world. At the time of publication, it was considerably impressive; echoed in the investment to recreate the series into this sizeable hardcover book at 9" x 11" & 255 pages long. The opportunity in such was the world in my lap. Some of what I'd learned:
*A Whale's front flippers are really forelegs, which, have five fingers w/in those flippers, just like a human's hand. It's blubber has purpose: as insulation in the frigid Arctic Ocean, helps it to bear the weight of the oceans' enormous pressure & allows it to dive to depths of 3,200 feet.
*The hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth is 134 degrees in Death Valley on July 10, 1913 & that record still stands today.
*The B&W stripes of a Zebra, visually striking to our human eyes against the sundried & drenched landscape, are actually a genius camouflage. Crepuscular creatures, like Lions, wake & hunt at the hours of sunset, their stripes mimic the long shadows the angle of light create & effectively blends them into it.
