Early 1900's souvenir dish, made in Germany for S. W. Kirvan Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. Depicting the Soo Locks. The Soo Locks were opened in 1855. Along with the Erie Canal, constructed in 1824 in central New York State, they were among the great infrastructure engineering projects of the antebellum United States. The Soo Locks were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966. Wheelock Dresden, dish is in wonderful shape, no chips or cracks, colorful pansies Floral design, luster green scalloped edge. Some of the gold details are waring off the edges, see photos. measures 5 1/4" diameter X 1" in height.
