The poem described an openness, free spirit and friendliness that Carter instantly recognized in the people that dwell here. Amon became smitten with the notion that the West was defined by a state of mind. To Carter, Fort Worth defined the West. So, ‘Where the West Begins’ will and forever will be, Fort Worth’s official slogan. Here’s our take. ‘Openness’ down the left arm, ‘Friendship’ down the right.
