Williamsburg Scissors Candlesnuffer by Virginia Metalcrafters

Gorgeous brass candle scissor snuffer by Virginia Metalcrafters - made for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation line. Approximately 6" in lenght. In the 18th century, most candles burned faster than their wicks, so it was necessary to periodically trim the candle to keep it from guttering. Snuffers, similar to this scissors design were used as wick trimmers. Some candlesticks of the time were made with a small hole through the socket. The point of the snuffer could be inserted into the hole to pry out the stub of the candle. New, never used. Original box and paperwork. Mint condition.
