“I believe in me more than anything in this world.”
Impossible? Just a word to Wilma Rudolph. Told she’d never walk again at a young age, she broke loose of her leg braces and ran. She ran through every doubt and prejudice she ever encountered. Ran into the hearts of millions, and right into the record books.
It was in Italy in 1960 that Wilma emerged as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. She won three gold medals and broke a couple of world records, becoming the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field at the same Olympic games, an achievement reminiscent of her childhood hero, Jesse Owens.
That Olympic success turned her into a global sensation. An inspiration. A force of nature. And a pillar of the civil rights movement.
Officially licensed by Wilma Rudolph.
