Wooden Hand Statue on Stand Ebony Wood Carving of Gyan Mudra Pose, Buddhist Art

Here is a beautiful vintage wooden hand carved in the Gyan mudra position--index fingertip touching thumb--the intention of which is to improve concentration and sharpen memory. This is perhaps the most well known of mudra poses, and is said to be used when seeking to gain knowledge, seek clarity, and hold space. This piece was made in Thailand, likely in the 1980s, and since it is set on a wooden stand, is perfect to set on a shelf, add to a hand collection, or even a Buddhist altar. The color of the wood is ebony, and it could in fact be made of ebony wood. This came with another piece that was dated to the early 1980s. Stand and hand together measures almost 13-1/2" tall, and the base is a little over 3" square, although the hand extends out beyond the base. Beautifully carved, although light at just under 10 ounces. Lovely patina; good vintage condition
