Vintage World War 2 handmade mahogany cigarette and ash tray box.
These were made as keepsakes for the service men to bring back home after their time of duty.
The box on the left pictured,is where cigarettes or hand made one's were stored.
In the box, there is a cut out opening that leads to a slide out tray.
A cigarette would drop in the slot to dispense and once pulling the tray out,you could grab the cigarette from there. The lieutenants name in english on one side is engraved. On the opposite side is Japanese writing and not sure what it says. On the edge of it,the numbers 1945 are carved into it and look different than the sides.
Matsumoto is engraved in the cigarette box cover with a few letters also engraved in Japanese.
I received this from a friend who had passed on and stated this was a good friend of his who served then till 1945 when the war ended.
This item is in great condition with typical wear or scratches of a vintage item of this age. Colors of some pictures vary due to lighting.
This is a neat piece of WW2 memoraiblila!
