Yaquina Bay Light, Newport, Oregon, 1871. Built on the crest of a hill at the North entrance to Yaquina Bay, this lighthouse has one of history's shortest terms of active service. The lantern was lit on November 3, 1871, and less than three years later went dark, victim of a bureaucratic blunder. The building was eventually put to use as a crew station for the US Lifesaving Service. Today the building serves as a tourist attraction and museum, filled with nineteenth century artifacts.
Signed & dated 1995
