Zpacks Nero 38L Backpack ROBIC Size: One Size Color: Black Condition: very gently used I purchased this pack for quick overnighters and fastpacking and then life got in the way. Consolidating my gear so I have to let it go. Only used for 2-3 shakedown hikes and love the lightness and comfortable shoulder straps! Super clean inside as it has never been used for backpacking. Outside might show a few sunscreen smudges but no other flaws. Please see photos. Please note this is an ultralight frameless pack, you can read more about the Nero on the Zpacks website. morganrosas What are the dimensions of the backpack? American Airlines requires carry-on to be 21" or less in height.

victorious0n3 @morganrosas I'm measuring between 18-19" when empty, not including top buckle. I've added a photo. I've flown with bigger packs than the Nero and never had an issue.

morganrosas @victorious0n3 Thank you, I'm traveling overseas and the airline says that if it is over 21" they'll charge me $75 to Parish and $75 back from Paris. So, it sounds like it will work.

victorious0n3 @morganrosas that sounds amazing! From what I've heard, this is about the right volume pack for treks like El Camino that don't require a full kit. I wouldn't hesitate to bring this pack on a longer trek or thru. It is a frameless pack, so it doesn't have the structure of a framed pack, but for me personally that's not an issue, and the sit pad is nice and handy.

morganrosas @victorious0n3 Thank you, I'm 68 years old and am trying to make the best choice on packs. What do you mean "don't require a full kit."? I will probably use every inch of the 38L but expect that the total weight will be around 17 pounds before water.

victorious0n3 @morganrosas by full kit I meant carrying a tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag, maybe all your food for several days, etc. The Nero is a bit small for a full backpacking experience like that, but I assumed you're doing the Camino and staying at hostels, and in my opinion the 38L is completely adequate for that. For max comfort I would try to keep total weight in the low 20lbs tops since it's frameless.

morganrosas @victorious0n3 Yes, God willing, I will be doing the Camino del Norte and staying in hostels. My first planned trek (Hendeye France - San Sebastian) does require me to pack extra food and 3L of water as there is little to no food or drink for 27km. I believe the frameless nature of this pack will make it ideal for carry-on luggage however, I'm just not certain frameless is the best for a 600 mile trek.

victorious0n3 @morganrosas thank you! Wish you all the best on your trek! As for frameless being better as carry-on, a framed pack is fine too, especially if it's under 40L. If you're concerned that they might make you check it, bring a large contractor trash bag to put it in for protection. A few other things to consider when choosing a pack: do you need hip belt pockets and lots of pockets/compartments? Do you need a vented back like a traditional pack has? Most ultralight packs aren't amazing at that.
