antique boys dress

AS IS:( some of the trims are undone)young boy's tunic / dress from c1875. Made of cotton twill or other thick cotton weave ~ a full-bodied, sturdy fabric. Modeled after the uniforms of the Zouave troops, one of the most popular patterns for little boys' fashion towards the end of the Civil War and on into the Edwardian period. Stand up collar reflects the 19th century Zouave uniform. The fullness of the tunic and the design of its yoke speak of the Zouave military uniforms which often included a bolero. Drop shoulders indicate this dress was made for a little boy. Back closure opens from neck to hem. Mother of pearl buttons are all present and they look original. Beautifully made with a placket that hides the buttons, shoulder pleats and an asymmetrical rick-rack trim in front. sleeve length: about 13.5” shoulder to shoulder:9.5” length:about 26” chest:29”
