This is a gorgeously vibrant example of tribal embroidery from what used to be called the Silk Road ... traditionally made by Central Asian brides for their dowries, with motifs that represented something from their lives--or wishes for good luck.
This piece is beautifully worked in silk on what feels like a silk-cotton blend for the black background, backed with solid and printed cotton scraps for a lining. Peel back the lining where the binding stitches have worn away, and you can admire the back of the stitching, which is almost as beautiful as the front (and with original fresh colors).
Condition is good antique/vintage. This piece has been used, and it shows sign of wear from fifty-plus years of life. Some of the pinks and purples have faded, and there is a little color bleeding around the bright pink hearts—please see all the photos!! The lining, as mentioned, has pulled away from the main piece in several places, as has a bit of the wool fringe.
Again, please look at all photos for signs of wear!
Other pinks are still vibrant, and there is plenty of life left! It will look wonderful hanging on a wall as it is, or you could use it to border another textile, perhaps for a table cover.
