Antique WMF Silver Plated Art Nouveau Lady German.. Made by “Wurttembergische MetallwarenfaBrik “ and is marked as such.. The markings have the wide step ostrich, which is more rare. See pictures.. An exquisite example of a WMF silver plate—- Art Nouveau lady with lyre and a swan on a pond, with roses and a neo classical background.. I’m sure most likely she is the Greek goddess.. dating from between 1910-1925… please see pictures for information on markings.. The tray measures 14 inches long, X 9 inches wide.. Reverse is footed with a hook, and there is some tape residue on the back, which looks like it was used to hold it on the wall better by a past owner.. Silver plate is in excellent condition with a minor Tarnish.. The tray is in very condition with very minor wear, some very minor dings-and a few scratches.. An explanation of the markings below “The fraction "I/O" means the normal thickness of silver deposited on the surface of the base metal. The one-letter inscription "B" means the use of Britannia metal (tin-based alloy) as a base metal for silver deposition. The two-letter inscription "OX" ("oxydiert" in German, "oxidized" in English) means artificial darkening of the silver surface to a grey color.” This item is an antique ..it is used -it can, and it will and it does show signs of wear and usage consistent with age.
