@kelenc the pattern and construction are dead giveaways! I'm pretty sure this one is for baby's first shrine visit. Think of it like a baptism. The kimono is draped backward over the baby and the shoulders of the person carrying them. Look up "omiyamairi" for pictures of how it's worn.
I study kimono in graduate school and collect them as a hobby. It's been a minute since I looked into children's wear, but this type is very distinct.

this one looks like it was never worn either. see those white circles on the sleeves, and center back? the family’s crest is meant to go there. it's left blank when the kimono fabric bolt is dyed so it can be added later after its purchased.
