schoolofrock11 Yours is the little sister to mine, I believe it's the smaller size, based on the pics. It's pretag, approximately from about 1984, based on the leather wallet pocket. Also has the pre duck hang tag on the matching leather strap. When you want to tag someone, just put the @ in front of their user name( no space after the @) Gorgeous!

schoolofrock11 This one doesn't have the hardware to attach a strap to. I have one study like this in black. I put at lobster claw strap on the hardware for the handles and it works great!

danabh @tanya1969 OMG! It's real?? You've made my day! I didn't want to use it if it was fake. I was concerned that the red piping on the top wasn't right, and it looks like mine doesn't have the leather attachments for the long strap. It is also a heavier looking pebbled leather. For sure? I am in cloud 9! Any idea what it is worth? It is in beautiful shape, except for a small, possibly pen mark in the back, see photo.

danabh @tanya1969 Also, where can I see other photos of this bag? I have looked and looked, that is why I thought it may be fake. Is it rare?

schoolofrock11 @danabh everything looks perfect. Their leather in the early years was very thick and heavy. Hard to say the value without knowing the condition of the bag. Is the piping in good shape, minor scuffing is acceptable. Trim worn through is not acceptable . Condition of the interior, a few minor pen marks are ok, a lot of ink or major soiling are going to decrease the value.

schoolofrock11 @danabh the smaller one didn't have the hardware to attach the strap. Ok post pics of my smaller one :)

schoolofrock11 Also do NOT over condition pebbled leather, it will open the pores and make it not waterproof. Never use mink oil. When I condition mine, i use Fiebings 4 way cleaner and conditioner on the pebbled leather and on the trim I use Fiebings Aussie conditioner..its like mink oil but imo, better.

schoolofrock11 The speedy isn't rare but yours is, a relatively rare speedy. This was in the infancy of the all weather line and they were trying to develop the pocket system. This pocket system came after the green tags ( see my educational post) which were a large rectangular tag on a leather pocket. They then developed this pocket, with the leather card holder and dropped the green tag.

danabh @tanya1969 Actually, it is amazingly perfect. Another reason I thought it was fake, as I knew it would be quite old if real. There is a small bit of scuffing on the top piping, which took off a bit of the color, the tiny black spots on the back appear to be a rub, not pen. No pen marks, and quite clean inside. The only other thing I notice is an odd kind of like burning on the back of handles where the leather is sewn. I will post more pics here a repost to show you.

schoolofrock11 Then they developed the tan interior pocket that was a high quality vinyl material. Which most of my vintage db have as in interior pocket. I have a few bags with the rare interior leather wallet pocket. I'll have to look for sure.

schoolofrock11 Guessing that someone took really good care of this or perhaps it didn't get used much. Mine was in near perfect condition. When you say burning of the handles do you mean the leather looks darker at the top? If that's what you mean, that's patina from oils being absorbed from skin, from being handled

danabh @tanya1969 I reposted with photos of the back of handles, take a look. I will add a pic of the minor scuffing on the top piping, that is it. Remarkably beautiful bag ( I had tossed into the closet after purchasing and thinking it was fake, until I saw yours tonight) yikes!

danabh @mydooneycloset Hi, I've been looking at your bags, and reading all I can to learn more. Only my 2nd Dooney. I loved the color right away, but, nearly put it back, because I thought it was too nice to be real. I am not going to sell it, but, wonder what you think the value is. I have spent hours looking for one like it, and only found one sad little one so beaten up, it was a goner, I believe on eBay.
