Aluminum studs actually grip better than steel, precisely because they are softer; especially if you fish where there is a lot of smooth granite or slate. You ever wonder why all the wading boot bar systems are made from aluminum, not steel? That's why. Lighter than steel, plus better grip. Even the most expensive studs on the market (the $68 Simms G4Pros) are aluminum, not steel or carbide. Plus, aluminum studs don't rust!
