are they true to size or if an xl in clothes should I get the XXl?

I wear an XL with a 36 inch waist. It really depends on how tight you want it but I believe they are true to size. I am tall so I had to get strap extensions for the ones I have because they are too tight over the shoulders. They are made in Columbia so I just imagine that generic hourglass body type and I believe that is what they model these after but it is just my opinion. Good luck!
