Gorgeous vintage Scott Barrie New York 1970s does 1930s masterful grey scale floral silk chiffon peasant gown. Truly incredible workmanship displayed, it consists of 2 layers of silver(or light grey chiffon ) with overlaying design detail in darker grey: the under layer is mainly light grey but has a checkerboard motif at the hem, the top layer has an all-over ditsy floral pattern. Darling ruching detail on the peasant sleeves with a tie at the top of each. In incredible condition given its delicate yet sturdy composition and age. I only see very light signs of wear if even that, but every seam is intact and there are no tears in the chiffon whatsoever. So rare to find these disco era beauties in such pristine and wearable condition!
No sizing tags remain, but it feels and presents like a small-medium sized and many measurements could be considered “free” due to the relaxed and flowing nature of the garment. 18" pit to pit , with an elastic expandable waistband that maxes out out at 36”, and total 49" length from shoulder to hem.
A true piece of fashion history, Barrie was among the first black and openly queer luxury American high fashion designers. Included is documented image of the same gown floating down Scott Barrie Spring 1978 ready to wear runway. Similar pieces are coveted and displayed in fashion museums and private collections worldwide. Serious inquiries and offers only!
