Discover the iconic AG7 Astronaut Space Pen - the same pen that accompanied astronauts on the Apollo 7 space mission and all manned space flights since then. With a design and construction that has stood the test of time for over 50 years, this pen is nearly identical to the one taken to the moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969.
Fisher’s AG7 Space Pen helped the original Moon-landing astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin get back to Earth. When they were leaving the moon one of their life support backpacks brushed against the plastic arming switch of the Lunar Module and broke it.
Aldrin informed Houston’s Space Center by radio, “Houston we have a problem.” Scientists went to work on the problem immediately by breaking the plastic switch on a duplicate module and studying how to proceed. Ground Control knew the astronauts had dispensed with nearly all tools to lessen their weight. But, the astronauts still had their Space Pens! The rest is history.
Early astronauts used pencils in space because no pens could write under weightless conditions or in a vacuum, which is why Paul Fisher created the Space Pen. It can write under water, at +400•F and below -50•F using highly sophisticated ink.
