NOTE: Interesting MYSTERY ITEM. THE LAST 2 PHOTOS ARE NOT OF THIS ITEM. Please read details below.
I inherited this from a friend who needed to downsize. She bought it at an antique shop some years ago. The information I post here is from whatever I could find on the Internet. It appears to be what was in the 1800's called a "trade card". Would have been for the Charles Hires Co. founded by Mr. Hires in 1875, a pharmacist who marketed his root "tea" as a medicinal item, calling it "tea" because he didn't drink alcohol, but later changed it to "beer" so as to appeal to the coal miners of the day.
On the back of trade cards (maybe not on this item) was a poem of sorts, and my last two photos here depict that poem and another one of his advertisements. His was the 1st root beer made. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS IN THE FRAME, an actual print, a copy, or? Tear in corner? Nicely framed, back is sealed closed, one paper corner lifted). Pencil marks on the back that I cannot decipher.
Shipping out from my immaculate home where we have 24/7 air purifiers. No smoke or other odors, and no animals inside or out.
